Rooibos. It all begins with the indigenous Khoisan people, who harvested the leaves of the Aspalathus linearis plant, crafting herbal remedies and savoring the delightful aromatic taste that rooibos offered.

While archaeological records suggest the use of Aspalathus linearis thousands of years ago, the creation of Rooibos tea as we know it today can be traced back to the late 19th century. The traditional method of harvesting and processing Rooibos likely originated in precolonial times, but it wasn't until the 19th century that the ethnobotanical records of Rooibos tea emerged.

In the picturesque Cedarberg region of South Africa, the locals discovered the exquisite flavors hidden within the fine needle-like leaves of the wild Aspalathus linearis plant. They embarked on a process that involved harvesting the plants, skillfully chopping them with axes, and gently bruising them with hammers. The leaves were then left to ferment and bask in the sun's warmth, transforming into the beloved rooibos we enjoy today.

Red Rooibos holds a special place in the hearts of those who indulge in its rich taste. Beyond its delectable flavors, this herb possesses the unique quality of being caffeine-free, making it a beloved choice for those seeking a soothing escape from the bustle of daily life. Its aficionados claim that it has a calming effect on headaches, aids in restoring restful sleep patterns, and offers relief for digestive ailments.

Today, the legacy of rooibos lives on as seeds are carefully planted during the months of February and March. For 18 months, these plants are lovingly tended until they are ready for harvest. The harvested Rooibos leaves are skillfully cut, ensuring a uniform length, before being gently bruised between rollers. This crucial step triggers the fermentation process, allowing the signature flavors and sweet aroma to develop, resulting in the remarkable essence of our Good Hope Red Rooibos.

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of our rooibos, where each sip carries the essence of centuries-old traditions and the unspoiled beauty of the Cedarberg region. Let the soothing flavors transport you to a place of tranquility, as you savor the heritage and unmistakable allure of this remarkable herbal infusion.
